Thrifty Polestar 2 Rental in Tasmania

Ben McKimm – Journalist

What does a car-obsessed automotive journalist drive when he visits Tasmania? Well, he speaks to his friends at Thrifty and rents one of the new Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor EVs with 650km of range to answer a few questions. Can you visit some of Van Diemans Land’s top locations (Freycinet) without losing your mind at Australia’s sub-par electric vehicle charging network? Answer: yes. Is the updated Polestar 2 one of the best ways to explore the land? Answer: also yes.

Thanks to the size of the place it’s easy to get around, but with Tasmania’s electric vehicle charging network rivalling that of the mainland you hardly have to plan your trips too which takes some of the headnoise out of the equation. Most importantly, if you get behind the wheel of the Polestar 2 you’ll also be driving one of the best EVs money can buy – just read my review to find out.

If you’re heading to Tassie and you want a premium EV rental while you’re there, check out the Polestar 2 and other electric vehicles now available through Thrifty.

M.Y. Sea Raes

Richie Hall – Video Producer

Full disclosure, I only spent an hour onboard the luxury yacht M.Y. Sea Raes checking it out and unfortunately, I did not have the pleasure of cruising on it and staying a night BUT I sure could imagine doing so and what a pleasure that would be. We featured Sea Raes in our latest episode of Suite Spot which you can check out here. At $18,000, inclusive of food and beverage, it’s certainly pricey but if you gather your friends (up to 8 guests can stay overnight) it’s one hell of a high-end adventure. Lovers of cult Byron Bay favourite Raes on Wategos will feel right at home here.

2020 The Masterpiece Shiraz

Alex Martinez – Media Sales and Brand Partnerships

Million Wines have launched their most premium wine to date. On a recent trip to Smiths Lake, I shared this wine with loved ones in a tasting style format and it was a wonderful touch on the night. The wine is a beautiful deep ruby in colour, with pronounced aromas of red cherry, plums and white pepper spice. Aged in rare limited edition French oak barriques, the Shiraz is available in a sophisticated box that also includes a wood corkscrew, two stemless wine glasses and the tasting notes. A great gift idea for those who already have it all, because you can never have too much wine.

Yeti Tumbler

The Yeti travel mug has truly become an indispensable part of my daily routine. Its thermal insulation ensures that my beverages stay at the perfect temperature for an extended amount of time, whether it’s a hot coffee or if I decide to switch it up to a cold brew. What sets the Yeti apart for me is its practical spill-proof design. As a super clumsy and accident prone person, the durable construction has proven resilient in the face of my daily hustle gives me a level of confidence when tossing it into my bag in the mornings.

Disaronno

Disaronno Originale Liqueur

Having recently attended an event for Disaronno’s latest offering, the Disaronno’s Fizz, I can confidently say that this is probably the drink of the season for me. The event took place on the rooftop bar of the Intercontinental Hotel in Double Bay, and was accompanied by a picture-perfect day, peaking at a stunning 28 degrees. Known as the “Endless Dolce Vita”, the Disaronno Fizz was the latest summery creation from the Italian drink maker, and consisted of a liqueur-base, soda, lemon juice and a wedge of lemon.

The liqueur itself is low in alcohol content but yet manages packs a punch in terms of character and taste. Slightly sweet and fragrant, it gives a warm sensation and can be enjoyed on the rocks or in cocktails like the Disaronno Sour, ‘Dis’arita (a fun twist on the margarita) and the Disaronno French Connection.

Sipping Disaronno’s refreshing citrusy, cocktail on a poolside bar is truly the definition of an endless summer.

Argylle

Frank Arthur – Co-Founder

In an exciting partnership with Universal Pictures, Man of Many hosted the Australian ‘blue carpet’ premiere for Argylle, an event that was nothing short of spectacular. With over 400 attendees, the pre-event party set the stage with Moët & Chandon, a DJ spinning the decks, and a mesmerising dance performance inspired by the film’s iconic whirlybird dance setting an atmosphere teeming with anticipation and excitement for the latest Matthew Vaughn action-comedy.

The film itself did not disappoint, delivering high-octane action sequences and a sharp, witty script that kept the audience on the edge of their seats. This spy film featured a stacked cast, which includes names like Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, John Cena, Catherine O’Hara, Dua Lipa, Samuel L. Jackson, and Bryce Dallas Howard, who do a great job at bringing their characters to life, coupled with Vaughn’s visionary direction blends action, comedy, and character-driven storytelling into a truly cinematic adventure.

Koh Universal Cleaner

John Guanzon – Head of Social

You know you’ve reached a certain age when the prospect of good quality cleaning products excites you. We’ve been using the Australian-owned universal cleaner brand Koh in our household and it still holds up as one of our favourites. After 8 years in the market, it’s developed a cult following and you can call me a loyal cult disciple. The brand started as a side hustle at a local Bondi farmers market by two passionate dads and has grown to become one of Australia’s beloved sustainable cleaning brands. Their company ethos claims to demystify the unnecessary complexity of cleaning and call me a believer, but it actually works. The eco-certified cleaner is free from all the harsh chemicals you tend to find in other surface cleaners, reducing harmful and toxic chemicals from entering and polluting water. If you’re just getting started, a good place to start would be their Surface + Spray Map Starter Kit which includes an Atomiser Spray Bottle, 1.8L Universal Cleaner, a 4-pack of microfibre cloths, a spray mop, and 5 reusable mop pads. Happy cleaning, friends!

Waterford organic cuvée gaia whisky

Waterford Organic Cuvée: Gaia Whisky

Jacob Osborn – Journalist

“All of us at Waterford feel whisky drinkers are becoming jaded by endless and bizarre spins on cask finishes, dressing up what is fundamentally the same spirit, with another excuse to spin a yarn. We think consumers are becoming increasingly interested in the raw material from which whisky is made—and how it is made—over and above such stories, and are increasingly seeking whiskies that are natural, made with high provenance, and with something actually real to say.” That’s a quote from Mark Newton, head of branding for Waterford Whisky. And if their latest single malt is anything to go by, he may be onto something.

Taking a few cues from the premium wine industry, Waterford pays extra attention to terroir, i.e. the natural environment from which their ingredients are sourced. Nowhere is that more evident than with their Cuvée Concepts series, which layers the influence of multiple terroirs and kicks off with Organic Cuvée: Gaia. The whisky maker blended distillations from six Single Farm Origins and two harvests to create an exceptional liquid, and the only certified organic single malt in Ireland.

Presented in a sleek bottle of blue glass—complete with a glass top—is a whisky of glorious flavour and dimension. It opens on a bountiful nose of vanilla, chocolate, white grape, and coriander seed. As per its origins, the spirit unfolds in layers over the palate, as notes of apple and barley give way to sweet vanilla and acidic grape. The finish is similarly delectable in its fusion of apple and vanilla with accents of coffee and grain. Whether you respect your terroir or just want to try something new and delicious, this single malt will spoil your senses.
