Two-time winners of the GABS Hottest 100, Mountain Culture, and fan-favourite Wildflower have joined forces to open a best-of-the-best taproom in Marrickville, simply called ‘Village’. These two fan-favourite breweries will serve their contrasting beer styles alongside each other, giving beer lovers a chance to sample two of the country’s best in one venue.
On one side of the equation, Mountain Culture will have 10 dedicated taps to serve its award-winning and limited edition beers, including the GABS Hottest 100 two-time winner Status Quo Pale Ale.
On the other side, Wildflower will serve up its unique beers, made on Gadigal-Wangal land with regenerative organic grains. These beers are brewed with a range of yeasts and bacteria collected by flowers native to NSW, hence their name. You’ll also be able to drink Wildflowers beers on tap at Mountain Culture’s brewery in Emu Plains. It’s a win, win, win for Australian craft beer lovers.

Celebrating the launch of their joint venue, Mountain Culture and Wildflower will launch the third edition of their ongoing, Belgian-inspired, collaborative beer, ‘Village’, named after the venue.
It’s a special beer that adheres closely to the traditional lambic and gueuze production methods practised in the Senne/Zenne valley around Brussels. Using a blend of one, two and three-year-old ales brewed at Mountain Culture’s Katoomba brewpub in previous winters, this recipe of malted barley and raw wheat underwent an intensive mash regime followed by a three-hour long boil with aged hops.
The hot wort, after the boil, was cast out into a copper coolship outside and exposed to the night-time air of a Katoomba winter. Sitting overnight, the hot wort naturally cooled to fermentation temperatures and the naturally occurring yeast and bacteria became inoculated in the world heritage area. Like a snapshot of the evening, the wild microflora kickstarted a fermentation in the barrel where the beer was allowed to rest and age until being selected for this blend.
The beer, ‘Village’ is available now, and the Mountain Culture and Wildflower team is collaborating with AP Bakery to bring some special pies to the opening weekend launch.
It’s an exciting time to support the little guy and drink great Australian craft beers. Mountain Culture was founded by DJ and Harriet McCready in 2019, while Wildflower was co-founded in 2016 by brothers-in-law Topher Boehm and Chris Allen. The ‘Village’ tap room is open now, located at Wildflower Brewing in Marrickville at the address below.
