When it launched in January, the new all-electric Porsche Macan arrived in a two-model lineup: Macan 4 (from AU$133,700) and Macan Turbo (from AU$180,100 plus on-road costs). These vehicles would completely replace the now discontinued petrol-powered Porsche Macan with all-electric power and one of the more advanced 800-volt electric architectures in the industry. However, questions remained about how a hefty price increase and all-electric adoption would fare with existing customers.
That question was answered last week at a brand event in Sydney, where Porsche Australia confirmed pre-orders for the new model are “in the hundreds”, with more than half of them from current Porsche owners.
Still, that hasn’t stopped the brand from expanding its model line-up. Porsche has unveiled a more affordable single-motor Macan (from AU$128,400 plus on-road costs) with up to 654 kilometres of range (ADR 81/02) and a faster Macan 4S (from AU$149,300 plus on-road costs) with up to 380 kW (516 PS) of power.

The entry-level Porsche Macan uses a 250kW single electric motor mounted to the rear axle. It’s the same as the Macan 4 but in a single-motor configuration. This results in less weight (-110 kgs), resistance, and more range from the 100kWh battery with up to 654 kilometres (ADR 81/02).
It’s no slouch either, with up to 265 kW (360 PS) of over-boost power and 563 Nm of torque, good for a 0-100km/h time of 5.7 seconds before reaching a top speed of 220 km/h.
Even at this entry-point to the range, the Macan uses the 800-volt architecture of the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) for up to 270 kW fast charging capabilities. This means the high-voltage battery can be charged from 10-80% in around 21 minutes if you can find a suitable charging station.
You also get the same technology, including a 12.6-inch curved display, 10.9-inch passenger display, ambient lighting with a communication light, and an optional head-up display with augmented reality technology.
What’s also new is the off-road design package that is optionally available for all models. This includes a new front bumper design with altered geometry, increasing the front approach angle to 17.4 degrees when the air suspension is in a specific mode. That compares to other off-road minded mid-size SUVs like the Toyota RAV4 (19.0-degree) and Porsche’s own 911 Dakar (16.1-degree). Yeah, it’s not going to turn the Macan into a Dakar or ‘Cross Turismo’ model, but it’s handy for sharp driveways and speed bumps no doubt. The height of the adaptive air suspension is 10 mm higher, increased to 195 mm at the normal setting.
You can get this off-road package in two colours: Vesuvius Grey or your choice of exterior colour. This will paint your front bumper, side skirts, diffuser panels and roof railings in the designated colour, while 21-inch off-road design wheels in Vesuvius Grey are also offered. If you chose the off-road package in the cars exterior colour, the side blades are also painted in the same colour to match, while the roof railings can be ordered in Black, Silver or Turbonite (Turbo only).
Finally, those who purchase a Macan, Macan 4 and Macan 4S, and don’t want the entire off-road design package can simply option the off-road front bumper with an inlay in Vesuvius Grey.
Compared to the already available Macan 4, the new Macan 4S offers similar range at 619 km (ADR 81/02). However, it’s more powerful, producing up to 380 kW (516 PS) of over-boost power, compared to 300 kW in the Macan 4. With Launch Control, the maximum torque is 820 Nm, resulting in a 0-100km/h time of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 240 km/h. This is more than one second quicker than the Macan 4 (5.2 seconds).
